§ 12.16.020. Assignment of numbers.

Latest version.
  • The Public Works Department shall assign house numbers to buildings or structures located along public streets within the City in accordance with the following directions:

    (A)

All numbers shall generally conform to the limits established by the house numbering system map, except that adjustments may be made by the responsible official to adapt the general system to the future street pattern.

    (B)

All streets in the Historic Code and streets radiating directly from the Historic Code shall have address numbers followed by the designation "East," "West," "North" or "South" and the street name.

    (C)

Diagonal streets shall be designated as north, south, east or west, depending upon the direction they most nearly approach. Streets located exactly 45 degrees from the east-west and north-south lines shall be designated as north-south streets. Curving and irregular streets shall be designated in such a manner as to most nearly approximate their general direction of travel and provide an orderly progression of numbers.

    (D)

All numbers on the south and east sides of streets shall be even, and those on the north and west sides of streets shall be odd.

    (E)

Insofar as practical, even numbers located directly opposite an odd number shall be one or more numbers lower than the odd number.

    (F)

Numbers assigned shall be based on the location of the major individual or common entry to a building. Each unit to which separate mail delivery is proposed and which is located on and visible from a public street shall have a number. No fractional numbers shall be used. Buildings containing a number of individual units reached by a common entrance and/or which receive mail at a common point may be issued a single number with individual units designated by apartment, suite or room number.
