§ 2.20.020. Powers and duties.

  • The authority and duties of the Sexton shall be as follows:

    (A)

    To administer the cemetery under this chapter;

    (B)

    To maintain at the City offices a record of the ownership and occupancy of all cemetery lots, based on information provided as prescribed in this title and on transactions hereafter occurring. They shall make such entries as may be necessary to keep the record current. All other records pertaining to the cemetery shall be maintained in a place designated by the City;

    (C)

    To designate the location of any lot to be opened and to require compliance with all regulations of the state and of this chapter prior to permitting the opening or the use of such lot;

    (D)

    To supervise the opening and closing of graves and the placing of markers, monuments and curbs;

    (E)

    To report to the City Administrator the need for, and recommend steps to be taken in regard to the maintenance and repair of:

    (1)

    Public ways;

    (2)

    Parking areas;

    (3)

    Facilities and approaches to the cemetery;

    in order that the same may be maintained at a level of maintenance directed by the Council and supported by the budget;

    (F)

    To enforce regulations requiring owners of lots to maintain them as prescribed in this chapter;

    (G)

    To enforce ordinances regulating human conduct within the cemetery and to take such actions to identify and prosecute offenders as may be practical and reasonable.

    (H)

    Supervise and enforce regulations governing the conduct of funerals and motor vehicle traffic patterns within the cemetery.
